I Am Second, Reunion Church Team Up for Easter Event
I am Second, the Texas-based ministry that has garnered recognition for its videos of celebrity testimonies, is teaming up with Reunion Church to host an event that will bring hope to the people of downtown Dallas during Holy Week.
The event, "Easter at the Majestic," will feature live testimonials from some familiar I am Second faces, like the ministry's founder, Norm Miller, illusionist Jim Munroe and "The Biggest Loser" season six winner, Michelle Aguilar. The event will begin at noon each day from Apr. 2-6, and will be held at the 1,700-seat Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas.
"It's easy to get caught up in the mundane day-to-day of work and life," Richard Ellis, pastor and founder of Reunion Church, said in a statement. "Our hope is 'Easter at the Majestic' will be a chance to focus on the importance of the holiday week and celebration of how we can be transformed when we put Jesus first."
Ellis, whose testimony has been recorded several times for the I am Second's website, told The Christian Post on Thursday that his first video was among the earliest produced by the ministry. He agreed to do the video after his friend and co-creator of I am Second, Nathan Sheets, approached him with the concept while it was still in its early stages.
Reunion Church decided to ask I am Second to team up with them for "Easter at the Majestic" after some self-examination. About 14 years ago the church held an event called "Easter Week At The Majestic," but they stopped doing it for a while, and after talking it over they decided it was time to bring it back.
Ellis says he has passed out fliers in the downtown area every day this week so far, and they have purchased radio ads and signs in the downtown area to promote the event. There are an estimated 120,000 people working in the downtown Dallas area, he says, so it is a great opportunity for Christians in the area to receive encouragement or even bring a coworker who would otherwise be hesitant to join them in a typical church setting.
The focus of I am Second is on the stories of people whose lives have been changed by God. Ellis says the goal of the videos and the upcoming event is not to suggest that being a Christian makes everything in life perfect, because it doesn't, but rather to show that there is hope and that God has helped many people deal with some of life's most difficult situations.
"People just connect with other people ... Jesus even did it. He told stories and he interacted with real people with real stories. His own story, it's not one of everything being blissfully great. It's tough. It was intense," the pastor said.
I am Second was launched in 2008, and features videos of celebrities and everyday people alike who have struggled with addictions, abuse, broken families and the search for purpose in life. Today, the ministry's website has been viewed over 20 million times and reaches 217 different countries and regions around the world.
