'I Was Just A Jerk': John Mayer Admits Fault
John Mayer has affirmed that he "was just a jerk" in past relationships among other confessions in an interview this week.
Notorious for his trysts with several women including Jessica Simpson, the 35-year-old singer is now in a relationship with Katy Perry. The pair have been going strong since last summer.
Today, Mayer acknowledges that his past romances were not as meaningful in an interview for CBS "Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood," set for air this Sunday.
Referring to his former self as a "jerk," Mayer added: "It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you."
"I wanted everybody to like me," the Grammy Award-winner continued. "I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."
Mayer's reflections arrive after years of disparaging reports about his love life, some of which included his own questionable remarks about women. During an interview from 2010, Mayer famously compared ex-flame Simpson to "crack cocaine."
"She's like a drug to me," the singer told Playboy. "And drugs aren't good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me."
Also at the time, Mayer claimed to hate "being the heartbreaker."
"If I date somebody and it doesn't work out, it's another nightmare for me," said the "Gravity" singer.
Mayer, who recently underwent surgery and a long recovery for a throat granuloma, admitted that dealing with the fallout from bad interviews was harder to cope with than not being able to sing during the forthcoming CBS segment. Furthermore, the singer touched on his current relationship with Perry and on returning to the music scene after a 2-year hiatus.
The singer was also formerly linked to Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, Minka Kelly, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Mayer's interview will be broadcast on CBS Television Network on Sunday at 9 a.m. EST.
Meanwhile, Mayer released his fifth studio alum "Born and Raised" in May last year. The "If I Ever Get Around to Living" singer is still recuperating from his throat condition, but performed his first set in two years last month. Mayer will continue getting back into live performances and said he would be "touring all summer" while speaking to Rolling Stone magazine.
