Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date: ICS Coming to LG Phones and Optimus 2X
Manufacturer LG has confirmed that a number of its high end smartphones will receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update, including its current flagship phone, the Optimus 2X.
"LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich OS update for the LG Optimus 2X," said LG on its Facebook profile.
"LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones,” LG added.
Ever since the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system was unveiled on Oct. 19, consumers have anticipated which smartphones currently on the market will receive an update from the current Android 2.3 Gingerbread to ICS.
Several manufacturers, such as Samsung, HTC and Motorola, have confirmed a number of their currently marketed phones for Ice Cream Sandwich updates, but there was no word from LG until now.
"Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly release by Google," LG said.
Industry insiders expect Ice Cream Sandwich to release in late November on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, possibly after the Black Friday weekend.
Exclusive carrier, Verizon Wireless has only stated that the Galaxy Nexus will release "later this year."
Other phones expected to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update are the Samsung Galaxy S2, Google Nexus 2, HTC Desire HD and Motorola Droid Bionic and Droid Razr.
The soon-to-be released Motorola Droid Razr will debut with Gingerbread and will later update to Ice Cream Sandwich.
