Facebook Could Turn More Useful with Skype Option

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg will hold an event on Wednesday where he will showcase a new product for Facebook users.

"Something awesome” were the words Zuckerberg used to describe this new product and it has had many speculating just what this new product could be.

According to Tech Crunch, a well-known technology blog, an unnamed source made mention about what Facebook was hiding in the bag and said it was none other than a "new video chat product powered by Skype."

According to another renowned tech blog, Mashable, although Facebook and Skype haven't mentioned anything, "sources confirm that Skype-powered video chat will indeed launch next week.”

Other rumors have supported the theory that Facebook is planning to unveil a music service in a joint effort with Spotify, according to CNET, which was unsure if this would be Wednesday’s highlight announcement.

If Skype's integration to the Facebook platform is announced on Wednesday, the new video call feature within the browser could thrust Facebook to new territory, giving the social networking behemoth a good grip on the mobile communications market, according to the Guardian.

Facebook already has a good hold on the media and advertising industries, and with Skype it can become even more useful or more influential.
