If 'Monopoly' Was A Movie, What Would the Plot Be?
Hasbro and Lionsgate are working on a live-action adaptation of the ever popular board game "Monopoly." After a failed attempt to make a movie that was intended to be a "real estate market satire" to be directed by Ridley Scott, they are planning to make a family-adventure film. The project has found a writer. Oscar-nominated writer Andrew Niccol was recently announced as the one penning the script for this adaptation.
Niccol is known for his work in "The Truman Show," "Gattaca" and "Good Kill." He has not done any work in the family-adventure genre though. The adaptation is said to be patterned with other family-adventure films like "The Goonies," according to the report.
The report also mentioned the possibility of Niccol directing the film, but this has not been confirmed by Lionsgate. Even without a director and an official cast, Lionsgate and Hasbro have made it clear that will Niccol on board, the project is moving forward.

Together with their announcement about Niccol, they also released an official synopsis for the movie, which says:
"In keeping with a game that has brought so many hours of joy to so many for so long, Monopoly will be a film for all ages, visually sumptuous, heartwarming, and full of action and adventure. The story centers on a boy from Baltic Avenue who uses both Chance and Community in a quest to make his fortune, taking him on a fun, adventure-filled journey. It's about making your own luck, what makes you truly rich and, of course avoiding Jail time!"
The synopsis offers little in terms of describing the storyline, so it is entirely up to Niccol to do some creative and imaginative storytelling to be able to weave the elements of the "Monopoly" board game into an adventure narrative that will interesting enough for the public to see.
