Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks Feud Reaches New Levels as Twitter War Ignites
There has been a feud between rappers Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks, but it reached new levels this week as Azalea, who has stayed mostly silent since the feud started, has started hitting back on Twitter.
During an interview with Hot 47, Banks explained her problems with Azalea and the music industry.
"I feel, just like in this country, whenever it comes to our things, like black issues or black politics black music or whatever, there's this undercurrent of kind of like a [expletive]," said Banks to Ebro in the Morning hosts Ebro Darden and Peter Rosenberg.
"That Iggy Azalea isn't better than any black girl that's rapping today, you know? When they give those awards out— because the Grammys are supposed to be accolades of artistic excellence … Iggy Azalea is not excellent … When they give these Grammys out, all it says to white kids is, 'Oh yeah, you're great, you're amazing, you can do whatever you put your mind to.' And it says to black kids, 'You don't have [expletive]. You don't own [anything], not even the [expletive] you created for yourself,'" she continued.
In response to Banks' interview, Azalea took to Twitter on Friday, Dec. 19 to blast her about being "poisonous" and a "bigot."
"Special msg for banks: There are many black artists succeeding in all genres. The reason you haven't is because of your poor attitude," Azalea wrote. "Your inability to be responsible for your own mistakes, bullying others, the inability to be humble or have self control. It's YOU!"
"You created your own unfortunate situation by being a bigot and don't have the mental capacity to realize yet. Probably never will," she continued.
"Now! Rant, Make it racial! Make it political! Make it whatever but I guarantee it won't make you likable & that's why ur crying on the radio," the Australian rapper tweeted. "You're poisonous and I feel genuinely sorry for you because it's obvious at this point you are a MISERABLE angry human being. Regards!"
Banks fired back almost immediately on Twitter and wrote, "Dear Lord, I Pray for this Clueless White Girl…None of this will make sense to her until she herself has children with a black man and has to deal with having black children in America."
Banks then tweeted the rapper by name, "@iggyazalea do you know what a minstrel is? Because that's what you are." Then Banks posted a photo of a white person wearing blackface on a variety show poster.
The feud between the two artists started when Banks took to Twitter to blast Azalea over the Eric Garner chokehold case. She called out Azalea for wanting to be a part of black culture, but not speaking out when black issues come up in the news.
