'I'm Glad I Got Blown Up' Says Boston Bombing Victim Who Is Now Engaged to Nurse Who Treated Him (VIDEO)
With the horror inflicted during the Boston Marathon bombings, it's hard to think that any good came out of the attack. But victim Jamie Costello has this unexpected take on the tragedy: "I'm actually glad I got blown up." In a way, he makes sense because being "blown up" led him to meet the love of his life.
Costello suffered burns and shrapnel wounds from the blast and underwent several surgeries. While he recovered at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, he met Krista D'Agostino, a traveling nurse serving a six-week temporary stint.
They attended a benefit for bombing victims together and started dating. Eight months later, they got engaged during an all-expenses-paid trip to France for first responders and victims.
"One thing that she hates that I always say is I'm actually glad I got blown up," Costello said on the TODAY show Friday. "I wish everyone else didn't have to, but I don't think I would have ever met her if I didn't, so I'm pretty happy."
Watch Costello and D'Agostino tell their inspiring story of finding hope and love in tragedy.
