'I'm Innocent Man,' Says Soulja Boy on Heels of Drug and Weapon Charges
Rapper Soulja Boy, real name DeAndrew Cortez Way, was arrested for weed possession Tuesday and is now claiming his innocence.
Police officers pulled the artist and four others over for a basic traffic violation. It was then that police officers found mass amounts of marijuana and at least $70,000 cash in the Escalade, according to TMZ.
CBS Atlanta reported Soulja Boy yelled out "I'm innocent, man" as bodyguards guided the rapper into a car outside of a bail bond company Tuesday.
Earlier that day he was released from court on a $10,000 bond.
Law enforcement told TMZ Tuesday all five men were being arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of a firearm.
Police also found a puppy in the car, which was turned over to relatives of the entertainer.
This arrest came on the heels of Soulja Boy's new movie, coming out today, "Soulja Boy: The Movie."
The rapper had 10 interviews in promotion of his documentary lined up today, and now that he's in jail some wonder if this is the best thing that could have happened to him.
The movie came out on DVD Thursday and while the star is still in a Georgia jail, apparently his PR team is working desperately to make a new strategy to promote the movie.
Peter Spirer, the director of the movie told TMZ, "I'm not sure how this will affect the movie ... Hopefully he gets out from this situation to get his movie out everywhere like he wanted."
Way also sparked controversy this year for lyrics from his "Let's Be Real" song, which takes a shot at FBI and U.S. Army troops. The lyrics in question are, 'F*** the FBI and f*** all the Army troops/Fighting for what?/B**** be your own man.'
