iMac 2017 to Sport Intel Xeon Processor; September Launch Rumored
The iMac 2017 is expected to be released in the last quarter of the year and rumors about its features and specs suggest that it will be one of the most promising devices ever.
The upcoming desktop is rumored to feature one of the most sought-after chips by Intel and may come with a random-access memory (RAM) provision of up to 64 GB. Just like the upcoming MacBook Pro, the new iMac model could be powered by the Intel Xeon E3-1280 v6 processor. It may also have an integrated Intel HD Graphics P630. Since the default engine of the iMac 2017 is Intel, the device might have an AMD graphics processing unit (GPU) as an optional component.
While reports do not point out exactly how the much-touted Intel processor will make the iMac 2017 more powerful, it is expected that the processing of the upcoming hardware will be supported by ECC RAM in three configurations, specifically 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB.
As for its memory, it is still unknown if the device will sport DDR4 or DDR3L. However, there are speculations that the use of EEC RAM means that the iMac 2017 will be far better protected against data corruption and system crashes. Also, it will reportedly come with faster NVM Express PCIe-based flash storage and will have a supported capacity of up to 2 TB.
Part of the iMac 2017 package is said to be Thunderbolt 3 ports. Because of this technology, the device promises the capacity to render images and videos in 33 million pixels. Hence, it is best for people who are into computer-aided design, virtual reality content development, film production and the like. The downside, however, is that its 8K monitor might be an exclusive offering. According to reports, Apple might offer the 8K variant at a price that most buyers cannot reach.
The new iMac is expected to be unveiled in September, alongside the launch of Apple's new iPhones.
