Will New Apple Desktops Arrive This Month? Apple Fans Await New iMac
There has been no sign of an iMac refresh for quite some time now. However, many speculate that Apple will introduce a new line of desktop products within this month.
Apple has been consistently mum on their plans for the iMacs. However, last year in October, Best Buy accidentally posted a product page for a new 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display. Macworld explains that this might be a simple placeholder created by a webpage administrator.
However, it was also pointed out that placeholders are normally created when retailers, like Best Buy, are advised about an upcoming product launch. So the leak still gives hope that the iMac remains in Apple's pipeline.
Another indicator that an iMac release is looming is the obtained transcript of an internal Q&A event with Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook and his employees. Tech Crunch got a hold of the recordings where Cook was quoted as saying: "If there's any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that."
The Apple CEO added, "The desktop is very strategic for us. It's unique compared to the notebook because you can pack a lot more performance in a desktop — the largest screens, the most memory and storage, a greater variety of I/O, and fastest performance. So there are many different reasons why desktops are really important, and in some cases critical, to people."
On the other hand, Cook was once again quoted giving hints at their continuous development of Apple's desktop line. According to Mac Rumors, Cook recently faced investors in another Q&A where he assured them that Apple remains focused to "do more in the pro area."
"Don't think something we've done or something that we're doing that isn't visible yet is a signal that our priorities are elsewhere," Cook told Apple shareholders, according to Mac Rumors.
The latest update for iMac was released in October 2015, which is more than a year ago already. It is also important to note that Microsoft has stepped up its game and introduced their very own all-in-one desktop called Surface Studio last October 2016, which is obviously a challenge posed at Apple's iMacs.
To take on the Surface Studio, reports speculate that the iMac 2017 might run with the latest Kaby Lake processor, supports virtual reality multimedia, and will introduce a relatively low price, noting that Surface Studio's cost starts at $2,999.
