Image of Jesus Christ Appears in Wet Paper Towel?

A British man was shocked during a recent visit to a health clinic when he claims to have seen the image of Jesus appear on a paper towel that was used to dry his feet.

After receiving treatment at the Longford Health Center in Coventry, England, 46-year-old Martin Cotterill had a blue paper towel set on top of his foot in order to dry it off. When he glanced down at the towel, however, he noticed that the moisture it absorbed had formed what appeared to be a face on the towel, the Daily Mail reports

“My first thought was, 'It's Jesus, he's come to look over me!' But it's all very tongue-in-cheek,” said Cotterill, according to Daily Mail.

He showed the image to his nurse, who immediately saw the face without any explanation, and then snapped a picture of it on his mobile phone before the towel could dry. The image faded away, but not before a number of other people gathered around his bed to look for themselves.

Cotterill later posted the photo to his Facebook account, and others have now weighed in on who they think the image looks like. Cotterill said the face also looks somewhat like Homer Simpson, or one of the Planet of the Apes characters, and says someone else thought it looked like a centurion.

“But it's just a bit of fun,” he said. “I don't mind who people think it is. I've certainly never heard of Homer Simpson's face appearing anywhere before.”

In 2011, a number of people have claimed to see the image of Jesus Christ in strange and unusual places, and while some make light of these images, others consider them signs from God.

A Texas woman recently claimed that the image of Jesus and his mother, Mary, had appeared on her screen door several years ago. She believes the image is a blessing, and says she hopes the door will serve as a symbol of hope for those who need it most.

In another instance this past summer, a couple from Anderson County, S.C., said the image of Jesus Christ appeared on a Wal-Mart receipt they received from the store's photo department.

"People are going to believe what they want to believe," said Gentry Sutherland, whose boyfriend first noticed the image on the receipt, according to NY Daily News. "There (are) tons of people who will say, 'Oh, we're in the Bible Belt,' but here's my question to the doubters, who else has the power to put their face on a check-out receipt but Jesus?"
