Indiana Dentist, Wife Arrested for Sexually Molesting and Locking Teen Daughter in a Cage
A dentist and his wife have been arrested for sexually molesting and keeping their young daughter in a cage.
According to local reports, the 57-year-old dentist, Alan Friz, and his 36-year-old wife, Aimee Friz, were initially charged with neglect and criminal confinement. Authorities also filed charges of sexual misconduct of a minor against the father.
The couple were arrested after the authorities searched their Huntingburg house where they reportedly found a wooden cage with the name of the 14-year-old victim on it. The said cage was placed inside a closet in the girl's bedroom where she was forced to sleep every night for the last month.
Separate initial hearings for the arrested couple took place on Monday, though there was a bit of a delay. Ambulance and EMTs needed to be called in as Alan Friz became momentarily unresponsive several times when Judge Nathan Verkamp began reading the charges filed against him, the Dubois County Free Press reported.
Alan Friz reportedly declined to be transported to a hospital and was medically cleared shortly after the incident, which allowed the hearing to push through at a later time on Monday.
Alan Friz was slammed with 26 charges: four Level 5 felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor; 11 Level 5 felony counts of neglect of a dependent; and 11 Level 6 felony counts of criminal confinement.
Meanwhile, Aimee Friz is facing 11 Level 5 felony counts of neglect of a dependent and 11 felony counts of criminal confinement.
The camps argued when it came to the bond amounts for the suspects. The prosecution asked the court to set Alan Friz's bond at $100,000 and half that cost for Aimee Friz -- which the defense naturally countered.
In the end, Judge Verkamp ruled that Alan Friz and his wife would be allowed to pay bonds of $25,000 and $10,000, respectively, under the condition that they never reach out to the victim and that they cannot leave Indiana while the case is open. They are also required to be present when they have court hearings.
The couple is expected to return to court for their separate preliminary hearings on Nov. 9.
