'Indiana Jones 5' Release Date, Cast: Harrison Ford as Indy May Not Be Movie's Main Character

The classic adventure film "Indiana Jones" is not yet done as reports indicate that a fifth movie is going to be added in the franchise. According to Cinema Blend, "Indiana Jones 5" is going to happen eventually despite the various talks and opinions on whether or not the movie should continue on.

Aside from that, another question being frequently asked is whether Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, Jr. or if someone else will take over. For the past few months, Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Jurassic Park") has been rumored to be the new one to don on the iconic bullwhip, fedora and leather jacket.

But in a report by Den of Geek, Frank Marshall, executive producer of every Indy movie to date, has addressed that rumor and told Total Film that they have not sat down yet to talk about the movie yet.

"There are a lot of rumours," Marshall confessed. "We haven't even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we'll sit down. But there's a bunch of people who could probably take the baton."

While that sounds like they're recasting Indy, it doesn't end up that way as Marshall explained that they have no plans of "doing the Bond thing" where somebody else will be called Indiana Jones. Instead, it seems like they're still going to get Ford as Indy but he won't necessarily be the star this time. Screen Rant noted that the fifth movie could be about the whip-wielding archaeologist taking a younger adventurer under his wing and passing the baton just like how it is with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" wherein elderly Han Solo leads and mentors a younger character.

Ford first played as Indy in the 1981 film "Raiders of the Lost Ark." He then reprised his role three years after in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," followed by the 1989 sequel "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." His latest appearance was in the 2008 film "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" wherein he played alongside "Transformers" actor Shia Labeouf.
