Indianapolis Colts Center Deyshawn Bond Suffers Quad Injury, Out for the Season

Deyshawn Bond's first season in the National Football League (NFL) has come to an abrupt end after just four games.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has confirmed that the center has sustained a "pretty significant" quad injury in the first quarter of their game against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.

Pagano didn't explicitly say that Bond's season was over when he spoke with reporters on Monday, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that the rookie will have to undergo season-ending surgery to fix the torn quad muscle in his left leg. According to the Indianapolis Star, the Colts have placed Bond on the injured reserve list.

Bond went from undrafted rookie to starter when Ryan Kelly suffered a foot injury in August, and he did a pretty good job filling in at center.

"He's done a phenomenal job of stepping in for Kelly. You know, you consider a college free agent coming in here, an undrafted dude, and stepping in there and played as solid and consistent football as anybody on the offensive line," Pagano said, via the Colts' official website.

The good news is that Kelly is expected to make his return when the Colts play the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.

Kelly was a limited participant during the practice sessions last week and the Colts ruled him out of Sunday's game on Friday because he wasn't ready yet.

Meanwhile, quarterback Andrew Luck has practiced with the team for the first time since he underwent surgery to fix a torn labrum in his right shoulder. However, there's still no clear timetable for his return.

"We've never put out a schedule, per say. There have been goals and they've been time-oriented with dates. And we've managed to meet those goals. But as far as a schedule, I think that's a dangerous word to use in regards to coming back as a quarterback with a throwing-shoulder surgery," Luck said, via NFL.com.
