Indianapolis Colts Injury News: Colts Put Whitehurst on IR
The Indianapolis Colts just couldn't get rid of the injury bug and it's something that's really beyond their control. After the injury to Matt Hasselbeck this week, the team announced that Charlie Whitehurst has been placed on injured reserve due to a pulled hamstring.
The number of injured players is increasing at an alarming rate, and knowing that Hasselbeck won't likely be back this week, the Colts have decided to work out Josh Freeman. However, it may take several days before the coaching staff could decide to make roster additions.
It is also expected that quarterback Andrew Luck won't be coming back soon from the lacerated kidney injury. It's a serious condition that may take a couple more weeks to recover from. With that in mind, the only remaining option the Colts have is Stephen Morris, a 23-year-old quarterback who went undrafted in 2014. He was part of the Eagles practice squad before the Colts signed him off.
Morris is a college football standout out of the University of Miami. He started his professional career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014 when he signed as an undrafted free agent, and then became a part of the Philadelphia Eagles in a brief stint with the team.
It's also hard to force those injured Colts to come back when the team already knows that they're out of playoff contention. In fact, it just doesn't make any sense because they're just going to risk themselves getting injured once again in playing for the Colts' remaining no-bearing games.
So here's the scenario for the Colts: Luck has missed six games due to a lacerated kidney, Hasselbeck is out with a separated shoulder, and Stephen Morris is largely untested, having spent less than a week with the team. There's a good chance the team will be forced to sign another quarterback ahead of Sunday's game.
Now that is what you call a struggling season.
