Indianapolis Colts Running Back Robert Turbin Suffers Serious Elbow Injury, Season Likely Over
Indianapolis Colts running back Robert Turbin's season is probably over after he sustained a brutal left elbow injury in the fourth quarter of their game against the Tennessee Titans last Monday.
"His season is probably over unfortunately and we're going to miss Robert Turbin. I mean, what a heck of a teammate and football player," Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said during an appearance on 1070 The Fan on Tuesday, via FOX59. "You hate to lose anybody. That's a blow to our team, but you've got to move on," he continued.
"He's one of our guys, one of our dudes. He's one of our leaders and if it's a significant amount of time, it's going to sting," Pagano stated after the game on Monday.
Turbin dislocated his elbow late in the game after he made a nine-yard reception on a third-and-10 play. He tried to brace himself with his left arm before he was brought down by Titans cornerback Logan Ryan, but he probably shouldn't have done that.
Well, elbows aren't supposed to bend that way.
The sixth-year pro has recorded 23 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown in six games this season. He also has nine receptions for 56 yards. His numbers may not be that impressive, but he has been very productive for the Colts this year and he's a great third-down back. Turbin has converted all seven of his third-and-one opportunities this year.
With Turbin sidelined for an extended period of time, rookie Marlon Mack should see a significant uptick in playing time. Third-year running back Matt Jones should see some action as well.
Meanwhile, the Colts have announced that they have signed Josh Ferguson to their practice squad. The second-year running back played in all 16 games for the Colts last season, but he was released in September.
