Indie Spirit Award Winners, Set Tone for Oscars?

Just one day before the Oscar Awards on Sunday, the Film Independent Spirit Awards has honored the year's top films.

Sweeping Saturday's awards was the David O. Russell-directed "Silver Linings Playbook," which earned the Best Feature Award.

Furthermore, the dramatic comedy also earned Best Screenplay as well as a Best Actress win for "Silver Linings" star Jennifer Lawrence on Saturday.

The film, which also stars Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro, is a main contender at Sunday's 85th Annual Oscar Awards with a total of eight nominations. "Silver Linings" nominations include Best Picture, Best Director, and Lawrence, Cooper and DeNiro are up for Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor awards, respectively.

Also nominated for an Oscar, Helen Hunt won the Spirit Supporting Actress award for her role as a sex therapist in "The Sessions."

"Beasts of the Southern Wild" saw recognition at Saturday's Indie Spirit Awards as well. The fantasy-drama earned Ben Richardson an award for Best Cinematography.

The Spirit Awards also recognizes artists' first attempts, and Best First Feature went to "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" while Best First Screenplay went to Derek Connolly for the film "Safety Not Guaranteed."

Michael Haneke's "Amour" was named Best International Film on Saturday, and the film is also up for the Oscar's foreign-language award.

"I am the oldest man in the whole room," joked 70-year-old Haneke while accepting the award, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Also in attendance Saturday was Matthew McConaughey who picked up the Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor with his role in "Magic Mike."

"I had to take my pants off to win a trophy," joked the actor, according to MSN.
