Infiniti Hybrid Guinness Record Holder in Speed and Fuel Economy
Fans of fast cars had better watch out and trade in their Ferraris and Lamborghinis for Infiniti's new hybrid, which has landed itself in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Infiniti's M35 Hybrid is not only the world's fastest accelerating hybrid car, it was also rated to have the best fuel economy. What more could a car aficionado ask for?
"The M35h has been designed and engineered to add to, not take away from, the driving experience, a key part of any Infiniti's appeal," the car company said during a press release statement.
The car has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 62 miles-per-hour in 5.5 seconds paired with an electric motor that can drive the wheels up to 60 miles per hour. The gasoline engine also turns off completely after the car exceeds 80 mph, working only 50 percent of the time when the speed is anything less.
The pairing of luxury of and economy is still a fairly new concept but given its hybrid status, the car's acceleration speed is hardly disappointing.
"It's not quite as fast as the mighty V8-packing M56, but with the gas pedal pinned to the floor and both the engine and motor humming in coordination, the car is quicker than you'd expect," Popular Mechanics reported.
As far as fuel efficiency, the cars' federal government rating clocked in at 27 miles per gallon in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
The car also falls in line with what Infinity owners have come to expect in regards to luxury and added technology. Added options allow the car to warn if it is merging into another occupied lane, or can alert the driver of pedestrians nearby. It also comes complete with an electro-hydraulic power steering system, offering drivers the option to have both types of steering to maximize speed and fuel economy.
To infinity and beyond!
