After months of waiting, players of the fighting game "Injustice 2" can finally get Black Manta as one of the title's post-launch downloadable contents.

Black Manta is the first character to be released from "Injustice 2's" Fighter Pack 2 DLC.

For players who pre-purchased the entire Fighter Pack 2, they were entitled to an early access exclusive which allowed them to play with Black Manta as early as Thursday, Sept. 14.

However, the rest of the "Injustice 2" community will be able to purchase Black Manta individually starting on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Players started to speculate on getting a Black Manta DLC as soon as the first trailer for the Fighter Pack 1 DLC was released. Eagle-eyed fans captured a still from the trailer and enhanced it. The image subsequently revealed an entire lineup of silhouettes that presumably corresponded to upcoming DLC characters for "Injustice 2."

On Sub-Zero's right is a silhouette that looked exactly like Black Manta. Then, in June, NetherRealm Studios concept artist Jessie Graybeal released one of his illustrations of the underwater supervillain. It added more spark to the speculation that the developers were including the character in the game's roster.

Then, finally in Gamescom last month, NetherRealm Studios confirmed that Black Manta was going to be the first character released from the game's second DLC pack.

Meanwhile, other characters included in Fighter Pack 2 are Raiden from "Mortal Kombat" and Hellboy. NetherRealm Studios has yet to announce the release dates for the said characters.

Black Manta is a popular supervillain and the arch-rival of the equally famous DC Comics hero, Aquaman. The comic book series offered a very tragic backstory for Black Manta. As a young boy, he was enslaved in a ship and was sexually abused by his captors.

One day, he was certain he had spotted Aquaman in the waters and asked to be saved. However, Aquaman did not see the boy asking for help – which Black Manta interpreted as a deliberate action from the superhero.
