'Injustice 2' Gameplay News: NetherRealm Studios Showcase Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman in Livestream

In anticipation of the release of "Injustice 2," NetherRealm Studios recently treated fans to a Twitch livestream of the gameplay between returning characters Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman. Apart from that, they also showcased some character moves - both old and new.

The Twitch livestream happened on Feb. 22 at approximately 4 p.m. EST. GameSpot was able to upload the livestream videos to their YouTube account afterwards.

The first clip featured Harley Quinn's playable character. NetherRealm revealed that Harley's core base gameplay remains quite similar as the one featured in "Injustice," but a few things have changed. Harley has new combos, and one of them gives the character a bat that she can pull from the phantom zone. The use of the bat also showcases her fun personality with the way she carries and throws away the weapon.

Returning capabilities include cupcake bombs, air gun shot, and straight gun shot, among other things. Apart from that, they also unveiled Harley's new character power, which, unlike the first game, is not a random buff. Instead, Harley has the power to summon her hyenas, Bud and Lou, to attack her enemy. Players can choose to unleash both animals or just one. The beauty of this character power is that Harley can immediately go into her next move as her pets are attacking.

The second clip featured Wonder Woman's playable character. As NetherRealm pointed out, the Wonder Woman in "Injustice 2" is very different. In the first game, Wonder Woman had two stances: lasso and sword. However, in the sequel, they combined the two stances because they felt that it made her more of a warrior, as having two different stances did not make sense for her character.

Wonder Woman still has some of the same powers and attacks like her shield toss, shield bash, and straight lasso. However, she does have a new character power, which is a buff that is chosen randomly from five different ones. Each of her weapons can be buffed; for example, when her shield is buffed, it has a different projectile attack. It was also pointed out that her buffs should be used continuously throughout the game instead of a "Hail Mary" pass because they recharge quickly and last for a long time.

Finally, NetherRealm made the two women battle it out in the new Arkham Asylum stage, which was also showcased in the livestream clip.

"Injustice 2" will arrive on May 16.
