'Injustice 2' Release Date, Gameplay: Devs Reveal More Details; Hints at Another New Character

Months before the release of "Injustice 2," developers have revealed more details about its gameplay. Meanwhile the presence of another character has also been teased.

The developers from NetherRealm Studios revealed that they are putting a "whole gear system" which adds some elements of a role-playing game to the franchise. In an interview with Game Reactor, "Injustice 2" game director Ed Boon said they wanted to create something "unexpected" for the upcoming game and that led them to add the said feature.

Boon explained, "A gear system is basically costume pieces that you earn throughout the game, as you're playing all the modes, that you equip your character with and they actually level up your character and make them more powerful, gives them new moves, and makes them stronger, better defence."

This basically gives players the chance to put their own touches to the characters they choose to fight other players with. As elaborated by Boon, "Every time you go online you're going to see another person's custom version of Batman, of Superman, of Atrocitus, of Supergirl ... they're going to look differently, they're going to have different advantages based on if the player wants to be more defensive, offensive ... so in a sense every time you go online and play somebody, you're playing a unique version of those characters."

On the other hand, the game's lead designer, Derek Kirtzic, explained in the same report that during players' matches, all the attributes and abilities acquired by the customized characters will be present and will determine how they will perform in the game.

However, at ranked matches, this will not be the case. Kirtzic explained that in this game mode, all the gears added to the characters do not matter so players battle each other on equal footing.

On other news, NetherRealm Studios is set to announce another character to be added in the roster of the game on Monday, March 13. The announcement was made through the franchise's official website.

So far, the game's roster now has the following heroes and villains: Aquaman, Atrocitus, Bane, Batman, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, Brainiac, Catwoman, Cheetah, Cyborg, Darkseid, Deadshot, Dr. Fate, Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Robin, Supergirl, Superman, Swamp Thing, and Wonder Woman.

"Injustice 2" will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One May 16.
