'Insecure' Season 3 Plot News, Air Date: Star Issa Rae Teases 'Controversial Topics' Ahead
Just like the recently concluded second season of HBO's "Insecure," the upcoming third cycle will be addressing issues that plague society.
Season 2 took on the topic of gender pay gaps, particularly with Molly (Yvonne Orji), who did not get the same recognition and salary as her white co-worker. And season 3, according to star Issa Rae, will be dealing with more subjects like this.
"I want it to remain a surprise, but know that I'm excited to tackle some very interesting and controversial topics," Rae, who also co-created and executive produces the series, told The Hollywood Reporter.
However, Rae did not go into specifics, not wanting to spoil any plot details about the new season. She also talked about the relationship between her character, Issa, and Lawrence (Jay Ellis). As fans may recall, the season 2 finale saw the two exes getting some much needed closure. And while things between them were definitely over, romantically speaking, their friendship will still continue.
"I don't know, I'm not actually sure what the future holds for Issa and Lawrence. I think that's the fun thing about our show," showrunner Prentice Penny told Entertainment Weekly. "But I think there will always be some sort of unsaid web that connects them."
In the end, Issa went back to Daniel (Y'lan Noel), whose character will be further explored in the third season. The pair's dynamic will also receive more focus.
"We've only seen Daniel through Issa's lens and this is an opportunity to define what their relationship is and what their friendship is a bit more going into the third season," Rae teased via THR.
HBO has already renewed "Insecure" for a third season. Rae revealed that there is no set date yet for a premiere, though it is likely that they will stick to the summer slot. She also explained that a final episode count has not been determined, though she personally would like to stay with their current number.
