Instagram Mobile App Signs Up 14 Million Users

The popular photo app Instagram has managed to add 2 million users in just one month.

Co-founder Mike Krieger has said at the Warm Gun conference in San Francisco on Dec. 2 that in addition to the recent Thanksgiving holiday, the launch of the iPhone 4S had much to do with the app’s high download stats.

Throughout Thanksgiving, Krieger said that the app was experiencing engagement levels of up to 50 photos a second.

The app, which pays homage to the Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid cameras, takes square-shaped photos versus the 3:2 ratio normally used by iOS cameras, and users choose a filter to transform the look and feel.

Instagram launched in October 2010 in Apple’s App Store, and as of November 2011, it was at 12 million downloads. Krieger has confirmed that downloads are now at 14 million.

While the app is currently only available for iPhone, an Android version is in the works.
