Instagram vs Snapchat: Instagram Has Far More Daily Active Users Than Rival App

Snapchat and Instagram have been in competition with each other for quite a while now, with both apps offering a wide range of effects and features and making efforts to step up their respective games. However, new reports suggest that despite the rapid increase in the former's number of users, many still prefer the latter over it.

Since Snapchat emerged and many got hooked on it, a number of people found it to be a threat to Instagram's current position.

Back in August, Snapchat parent company Snap Inc. reported that the application had an average of 173 million daily users, which was a significant increase from the 166 million users it had during the first quarter of this year. However, the increase did not come close to that of Instagram, which constantly comes up with new updates and features to keep up with its rival app.

On Sept. 25, Instagram announced that 100 million more people had used the app since April of this year, which made its total number of users 800 million. Of this number, 500 million are daily average users.

Instagram and Snapchat are seen as rivals as both apps provide a platform for sharing photos, videos and messages. For the past few months, Instagram has been trying to keep up with Snapchat, introducing updates that include augmented reality features. While the two apps differ a bit on how they tackle augmented reality, Instagram is trying to catch up by offering AR face filters like nerdy glasses and animal ears that are quite similar to those of Snapchat.

However, since introducing Instagram Stories, Instagram itself has also seen a significant boost in its daily user number. According to a report by The Verge, it has seen an increase of 160 percent in its daily active users—which translates to an additional 200 million users—since adding the Stories feature.
