Insurgent Movie Premiere Date March 2015; Divergent 2 Sequel Adding New Character Not Seen in Book
"Insurgent" is an upcoming science fiction film based on a novel of the same name by Veronica Roth. There are rumors, however, that the film is not going to stay true to the book's plot.
There are indications that the lead characters Tris and Four -- played by Shailene Woodley and Theo James -- are to be going their separate ways in the second film. A new character, Edgar, to be played by Johnny Weston looks to form the complete love triangle.
This new character is likely to create some problems for Tris and Four which would lead to their breakup. The separation is not expected to last as fans won't be happy to see their favorite characters split up.
The film's straying from the book's plot is worrying to some but James has spoken about it and feels confident with the new direction. He says that as long as there is good character progression, fans won't be unhappy with the changes.
"You have to honor the material for the first film because you have a fanbase, but when you come to the second one, if you you've done well with the first movie, you now have the ability to think outside the box," James said previously.
The film will be following the events of the first film where Tris Prior will try to figure out the Erudite faction's intention for their insurrection as well as the information the Abnegation are trying to protect. The film will be the second title in the "Divergent" series and is scheduled for a Mar. 20, 2015 premiere.
The third book in the Divergent series "Allegiant" is to be split into two films, much like what "The Hunger Games" did with their third title.
