Int'l Pro-Family Advocates Denounce Hollywood, Pornography

Movies produced by Hollywood and pornography are threats to the natural family, said speakers at the world's largest pro-family gathering in Warsaw this past weekend.

"Every day, an American industry drops metric tons of toxic waste in your countries and homes," warned Don Feder, communications director of the World Congress of Families, according to WCF. "I refer to Hollywood, whose principle products – with honorable exceptions – are sex, violence, perversion, nihilism, attacks on religion and a thoroughgoing anti-family ethic."

More than 3,300 delegates gathered May 11-13 at the historic Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, Poland, for the World Congress of Families IV. Attendees came from as far as Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Nigeria and The Philippines.

During the three-day congress, participants discussed and analyzed issues impacting the family such as: abortion, the move to legitimize same-sex "marriage," population decline, pornography, attacks on the family in news and entertainment media, and strengthening the family through tax policy, home-based businesses and the renewal of traditional religion.

Speakers at WCF also spoke strongly against pornography and its "obvious" detrimental affect on society and the traditional family unit.

"The evidence that pornography causes harm is so obvious that government warnings should be mandatory," said Angela Conway of the Australian Family Association, according to WCF.

Marie-Claire Hernandez of the Family and Society in Mexico added, "We may be facing a tidal wave of lost intimacy, selfishness and crime," commenting on internet pornography.

Delegates all agreed that effort is needed to counter the growing anti-family movement in the world and to raise greater awareness among government leaders and the general public on the importance of the natural family to society.

The World Congress of Families IV concluded on Sunday with a panel on "Faith and Family – The Vital Bond," and a closing ceremony.

The World Congress of Families is an international network of pro-family organizations, scholars and leaders seeking to restore the natural family as the fundamental social unit of civil society. The WCF was founded in 1997 by Allan Carlson, president of The Howard Center. There has been three World Congress of Families – in Prague (1997), Geneva (1999), and Mexico City (2004).
