InterVarsity Fellowship members joined student-leaders around the world for the 2005 Formacion conference International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) conference in Giżycko, Poland.
The goal of the biennial, 12-day "Formacion 2005" conference, which began August 1, is to form young Christian leaders in the image of Christ, according to one of the event's directors, Dr. Robert Grahmann.
"This kind of intense, 10 day experience tend to be life-changing for students, not just giving them a vision for ministry but also 'forming them deeply in Christ, initiating patterns of spiritual development that often last for the rest of their lives. It is real discipleship, in the best sense of that word," said Grahmann.
For American students, another reason to partake in Formacion is to recieve a better grasp of the impact of world events that would otherwise seem distant to them, according to the IVF website.
Most of the leaders gathered are from European and Eurasian countries. There are 150 ministry groups - including IVF - that are part of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
Each day starts with a morning Bible Study, ending with workshop sessions, outdoor and indoor training program.
Notable speakers at the event are Andrew Fellows of L'Abri Fellowship, IFES/Bulgaria General Secretary Charlie Hadijev, and former-director of IVF Bible and Life Training Bob Grahmann.
Grahmann has 25 years of experiences in student and staff ministries with both IVF and IFES in North America, Africa, and Europe.
IFES was formed in 1947 in Harvard University in the United States. The organization's vision is to witness Christ in universities all over the world. The core of its teaching is focus on preaching, teaching, and study.
Formación 2005 will close this coming Friday, August 12.
