iOS 10.2.1 Fix for iPhone 6, 6s News: Apple Comes Up With a Solution for Unexpected Phone Shutdowns

Apple has some good news for owners of the iPhone 6 to 6s Plus. The company claims that the recently released iOS 10.2.1 comes with a fix for the reported unexpected shutdowns that a number of them may have experienced.

It has been months since owners of the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus started complaining about a bug that forces the smartphones' screens to shut down.

The issue can be frustrating since every time the phones would shut down, owners would be forced to plug these in to make their devices work again.

A month after the iOS 10.2.1 went live, Apple announced that they have addressed the issue on a large scale and reduced the shutdown issues by 80 percent on the iPhone 6s and 70 percent on the iPhone 6.

In a statement given to Tech Crunch, Apple said, "With iOS 10.2.1, Apple made improvements to reduce occurrences of unexpected shutdowns that a small number of users were experiencing with their iPhone."

The Cupertino-based technology firm also revealed that more than 50 percent of active iOS users have already installed the iOS 10.2.1 update.

Apple also explained that for iPhone owners who will still experience unexpected shutdowns, iOS 10.2.1 is equipped with the ability to initiate an automatic restart.

According to Apple: "It is important to note that these unexpected shutdowns are not a safety issue, but we understand it can be an inconvenience and wanted to fix the issue as quickly as possible. If a customer has any issues with their device they can contact AppleCare."

Based on what Fortune reporter John Jeff Roberts personally experienced, he mentioned that the iOS 10.2.1 fixes do "appear to be working." He shared that since installing the latest iOS version, his iPhone 6 stopped having these unexpected shutdowns.

Mac Rumors noted that the reported unexpected shutdowns are not part of the reason why some iPhone 6s units were earlier recalled. The recall was made for a physical battery replacement due to some issues in the manufacturing process.
