iOS 11 Mail Bug: Apple's App Can't Send Email From Outlook, Office

Apple's iOS 11 update bricked the native Mail app on the platform, introducing an error preventing it from sending email from an Outlook, Exchange or Office 365 account.

Users excited about their new iOS 11 update may find their joy short-lived upon discovering that the Mail app can't send mail properly anymore. The new app on iOS 11 blocks Microsoft accounts from sending email, according to Telegraph tossing aside a crafted message with a terse message.

"Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server," the brief message from the Mail app says.

Apple should have been aware of the issue for some time now, with beta testers reporting the issue a week before launch. A tweet from user @LtAndyNorris on the bug report he sent about that same error was just one of several already known as early as Sep. 13, according to Mac Rumors.

Microsoft has a recommendation to make, and it involves ditching the misfiring Mail app. "To work around this issue, download the free Outlook for iOS client from the App Store. The Outlook for iOS client fully supports various email services, including Outlook.com, Office 365, and Exchange Server 2016," the message from Microsoft said.

The company is now working with Microsoft on the issue just now, promising to release a fix in an upcoming software update, as the iPhone maker promised in their update on their support page.

While Outlook and Exchange users are sitting around waiting for Apple to figure out how to connect to Microsoft's email servers, they can check out some of the shiny new features coming with the update.

There's the new Control Center, with its customizable layout, Force Touch controls, and its insistence on keeping Bluetooth and WiFi on. In fact, there's a whole heap of interesting quirks that the Reddit and Mac Rumors community has posted on about iOS 11, in general.

Complaints frequently include laggy animations and battery drain, especially on older handsets. Maybe Apple has really stopped just short of finishing the iOS 11 before launch, as Hackernoon notes in their long list of oversights.
