iOS 5.1 Upgrade Available, Brings Japanese to Siri
The iOS 5.1 upgrade for Apple devices will be available later on today, according to an announcement made by the company during its media event.
The software ushers in a significant update for the artificial intelligence system known as Siri by allowing it to communicate in Japanese.
It will also more closely resemble the new version of Mountain Lion, the operating system recently released for Apple computers, according to CNET.
The software will also introduce a redesigned camera app for the iPad along with the ability to delete individual photos from Photo Stream and an "updated AT&T network indicator."
The camera shortcut will always be visible on the lock screen for iPhone and iPod touch users. It is also being reported by users that the update to the AT&T network indicator is a change to display "4G" in the status bar, but the device will remain at the same speed despite that change.
Apple also debuted the long awaited third generation iPad at today's media event.
The tablet will likely run the new operating system and also include some impressive new specifications.
The device that Apple is simple calling "the new iPad," will be the company's first 4G LTE device,
It will also sport a high definition Retina display that has a 2048 x 1536 resolution, a 5-megapixel camera capable of capturing video in 1080p, and dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics for gaming and a battery that lasts up to 9 hours in 4G and 10 hours with 3G.
The new iPad will ship on March 16 in the U.S. and its price will be the same as when the iPad 2 was released, with the lowest grade model starting at $499.
The 16BGB Wi-Fi iPad 2 will also still be available and its price will drop to $399.
