iOS 5 Release Date: Apple Releases Almost Flawless Operating System
Critics Declare the iOS 5 as Being Compatible With Old Apple Products Without Freezing
Apple has made the iOS 5 mobile operating system available for free download, offering over 200 new features for previous iPhones, iPads, and older model iPod touches.
The software, which was originally meant for the iPhone 4S, due to release as early as Friday, is now being made accessible for old iPhone models.
According to tech blog PCWorld, iOS 5 brings many benefits to old iPhone models without freezing their systems. New features include the iCloud, Newsstand, iTunes Match, photo editing, iMessage, and multiple Twitter access points.
“iOS 5 may be the first major update I’ve seen that’s almost flawless,” reported PCWorld.
The new operating system will also have quick photo access, which allows users to access their camera by double clicking their default screen.
A one stop notification center allows users to view all of their reminders at once.
Tech critics argue that Apple made this strategically generous move after the disappointing “Let’s Talk iPhone” conference which occurred in Cupertino on Oct. 4. At the conference, new Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced the iPhone 4S as opposed to the expected and highly anticipated iPhone 5, which is now due to release in late 2012/early 2013.
This is just one of many benefits Apple has used to supplement hungry consumers. Free downloads of the iCloud, the online, wireless synchronization service, has been made available as well.
“For some of us, iCloud means we're never buying another computer, and for the rest of us, iCloud will be the end of computing as we have always known it,” wrote tech blog Gizmodo.
iCloud differs from its predecessor, MobileMe, in that it is free to all iOS5 and Lion operating systems.
Although the iOS 5 is compatible with old iPhone models, users who want the prestigious voice recognition system Siri, described as a “personal assistant,” or Airplay Mirroring, which allows users to project their iPhone screen onto a larger one, must wait for the iPhone 4S release.
