iOS 5 Release Date: Which Devices Are Compatible?
For customers unable to afford the new iPhone 4S or even the iPhone 4, downloading iOS 5 on an old device should not be a problem.
Apple’s new operating system will be available for download on the iPhone 3GS along with the iPad and iPad 2.
iOS 5 can also be downloaded on the third and fourth generation models of the iPod Touch, including the new white version.
Apple TV will also receive an upgrade and its own version of iOS 5 which will be labeled as software version 4.4.
The iPhone 4S will ship with the new software pre-installed.
iOS 5 was made available for free download earlier today in Apple’s iTunes store.
Users can obtain the upgrade to the next-gen system by connecting their devices to iTunes and clicking the “Check for Update” button.
iOS 5 will include over 200 new features.
Some of which include a new Notification Center, iMessage, Newsstand, Reminders, and system wide Twitter integration.
The new software’s release was announced early last week at Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone Event” which took place in Cupertino, California.
Apple used its home campus to debut the new iPhone 4S along with announcing the release date for iOS 5 and the white iPod Touch model.
The iPhone 4S is already slated to be Apple’s most successful iPhone launch to date with the company selling over 1,000,000 pre-orders.
One of the iPhone 4S’s main selling points is Siri, a voice operated navigation system which will be exclusive to the new iPhone.
By coming with iOS 5 pre-installed, the iPhone 4S will be the optimum device for testing out the new software.
iMessage is one of the new systems most enticing features as its allows iPhone users to message each other free of texting charges.
