iOS 8 Untethered Jailbreak by Redditor Could Be a Fake

Apple's newest iOS 8 is scheduled for release on Sept. 17, according to the Cupertino company's latest press conference Sept. 9. There's only a few days left but there's already news of a jailbreak for the operating system.

Redditor w0rldello posted an image link to Reddit that showed what appears to be a screenshot of the iOS 8 interface and the Pangu app icon. iOS 8 isn't out yet but the Reddit user claims to have reverse engineered the Pangu jailbreak for the iOS 7.1.x.

The legitimacy of the iOS 8 "jailbreak" has been questioned by fellow Redditor jailbreakers, insisting that w0rldello share his code via personal messages so that the others could try the exploit themselves. Various Redditors in the thread have been claiming the jailbreak to be fake since the original poster has only included a screenshot of the installation of the Pangu jailbreak.

Since it's posting, w0rldello has not been able to prove the legitimacy of the exploit and so far, the jailbreak is unauthentic. The "jailbreak" is supposed to be for the iPhone 5S and was claimed to have been achieved by hex editing the binary code of the operating system itself.

Despite numerous Redditors demanding more proof other than screenshots of the Pangu installation, w0rldello has not been able to deliver much and has been dismissed as a fake.

Still, the iOS 8 is only a day or two away and users might not have to wait long to get their hands on the latest Apple operating system. Though for those with jailbroken Apple devices, they may have to wait a little longer for a jailbreak of the iOS 8.
