iOS Bugs, Problems Update 2017: Some Apple Users Can't Use The Letter 'i'
iOS users are now fuming as the latest version of the mobile software has a bug that's currently stopping users from using "i," an important vowel. Apple's support staff has advised users to use text replacement as a workaround while their software engineering team tries to get it together.
The problem was first brought up to public attention on Apple users' forums like Mac Rumors, and the issue has baffled iPhone and iPad users everywhere, to say the least. Users trying to type the letter "I" are finding that the iOS 11 version of the default keyboard is recommending a string that looks like "A[?]" as a replacement.
"I have a $1,150 telephone that can't read the letter i," user Mike Murphy vented on his Twitter post on Monday, Nov. 6.
It's bad enough that Apple's software is replacing the personal pronoun with a nonsense word, it also just happens that it's the most used pronoun in English text. Fans are wondering, justifiably, just how this issue made it past testing and into the official launch of the latest iOS.
Apple is currently aware of the issue and is working towards a fix, according to a user via Mac Rumors. For now, the company is instructing users to use text replacement as a band-aid for the bug.
Users are advised to go to Settings, then General, Keyboard, and finally, Text Replacement. In the screen, users can then type the uppercase "I" for the target word, and add the lowercase "i" as its replacement.
Apple device owners can also do as author Ernst Vincent Wright did in the 1930s, when he wrote the novel "Gadsby" without the letter "e," according to Business Insider. They can also use words like "aye," at the risk of sounding just a bit less coherent than usual.
The company has promised a fix in a yet unspecified future software update, as they wrote in a Twitter post.
