iPad 3 Release Date: Apple Considers Backlight Alternatives for iPad 3
Apple plans to launch the iPad 3 sometime in 2012, according to the latest rumors, and insiders revealed the company is set to find an alternative backlight for the tablet.
According to the DigiTimes technology website, the current backlight used on the iPad 2 cannot provide enough brightness for the new high-resolution screens that will come with the next generation iPad.
“With the next-generation iPads expected adopt LCD panels with resolutions higher than 2048 by 1536, the current single LED light bar designed for the iPad 2 has to be modified in order to maintain or strengthen the brightness the panels,” said DigiTimes sources.

Apple might incorporate a single-bar form factor with two LED chips to solve the brightness issue in the next iPad.
Another possible solution the company might implement involves using dual-LED light bars, one on the left and the other on the right side of the display.
“Apple is said to be interested in deploying the dual-LED light bar design because vendors have solved heat dissipation and battery consumption issues,” wrote the 9to5Mac technology website.
DigiTime’s information is not always accurate. The publication has made a few missteps in the past concerning Apple rumors, according to 9to5Mac.
DigiTimes reported last week Apple planned to give its most popular devices, including the iPhone, iPod and iPad a complete overhaul for 2012. It was also revealed there is a strong chance that Apple will launch two new iPad models next year including one with a slight upgrade slated for a first quarter launch and revamped iPad 3 for the 2012 holiday season.
The next generation iPad is rumored to have a faster processor including an A6 chip and a retina display.
