iPad 5 Release Date Set for October 31, Mac Pro to Launch in November

The iPad 5 release date is set for the end of Oct.

A French website called MacGeneration shared a report today that reveals target dates for all of Apple's new products that are expected to be unveiled at the company's media event at the end of this month.

The new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 will be released on Oct. 30 or 31, according to the site. The Mac Pro will launch on Nov. 15.

The website also predicts that a new line of MacBook Pros will launch soon. The rumor correlates with some of the recent sightings of the 13-inch and 15-inch models in benchmarks. These new versions will come with improved battery life thanks to Intel's power-efficient Haswell processors and a more powerful "Iris" integrated graphics in the chipset. Other features expected for the laptop include faster PCI Express-based flash storage and a faster 802.11ac "Gigabit" Wi-Fi.

Apple will host a media event on Oct. 22 to introduce the fifth-generation iPad and the iPad mini 2. Other devices and software set to make an appearance there include the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.

The event's date was confirmed by AllThingsD, a site that has been pretty reliable in the past concerning information on Apple products.

"People familiar with Apple's plans tell AllThingsD that the company will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday October 22," wrote the publication. The focal point of the gathering will be the latest updates to the company's iPad line, but new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, I'm told.

The iPad 5 will feature a design that is quite similar to the iPad mini. This will make it considerably thinner, lighter, and will give it smaller side bezels. It's also expected to come with the same 64-bit A7 processor as the iPhone 5S and an 8-megapixel camera.
