iPad 5 Rumors: Features to Include 8-Megapixel Rear Camera

Apple's upcoming fifth-generation iPad will feature an 8-megapixel camera.

A new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that both the new full-sized model and iPad mini successor will come with more advanced cameras than the ones found on previous versions.

"We predict Apple will launch new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 in 4Q13," wrote Kuo. "As the tablet market becomes increasingly competitive, Apple could upgrade the camera as a selling point for the new iPad in a bid to increase competitiveness. We expect the upgrade will include 8MP rear camera, up from 5MP, and a larger aperture. Lens module ASP will rise 10-20 percent on this optics spec upgrade."

This will give both new iPads the ability to capture higher quality low-light pictures as well giving them features found on the iPhone camera such as Slo-mo video which allows the capture of 120fps slow-motion footage.

The iPad 5 release date should be coming soon as parts from the device have been leaking more frequently. Pictures of this gray rear shell used in the video were posted by Australian write Sonny Dickson last month. The leak seems pretty legitimate as Apple just launched its new iPhone 5S in this same exact color.

A shell for the next-gen iPad mini also leaked in this same color two weeks ago. The release date for that device could be as early as next month as the company is expected to unveil the new device in October.

There have been several leaks of the tablet's rear shells over the past few months, with most of them being a silver color. A Japanese parts retailer posted up the first picture of the component in a new space grey color earlier this month.
