iPad 5 Rumors: Tablet to Feature Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 and A7 Chip

Corning recently announced its Gorilla Glass 3 and the inclusion of it on the next Apple tablet seems like more than just an iPad 5 rumor.

Gorilla Glass is normally used for the screens on the iPhone and iPad so it is safe to assume that Apple will employ Corning's material for the iPhone 5S and iPad 5.

Corning claims to have made several improvements to Gorilla Glass 3 and has incorporated a proprietary feature called Native Damage Resistance.

Native Damage Resistance reduces the propagation of flaws, the appearance of scratches and does a better job of maintaining the overall retained strength of the glass.

"As a result, GG3 claims a three-fold improvement in scratch resistance, 40 percent reduction in the number of visible scratches and 50 percent boost in retained strength after the glass becomes flawed," said Corning regarding the material.

The 5th generation iPad will also include an A7 chip, according to other reports. The component will most likely not be produced by Samsung as Apple has cut ties with its competitor in recent months.

Apple is now looking to have a company called Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company create its processors for future devices such as the iPhone and iPad.

The iPad 5 is also rumored to bear a closer resemblance to the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, featuring a new black design.

Apple will most likely release the 5th generation iPad in the middle to late part of 2013.

The company rushed the release of the 4th generation model, launching it just six months after the third-generation model was introduced in early 2012.

The iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 will probably be available in the fall of 2013.
