iPad Air vs. Nokia Lumia 2520: Spec and Feature Comparison
Both Apple and Nokia recently unveiled two high-end tablets equipped to take on every device currently found in the market with the Lumia 2520 and iPad Air.
Nokia's slate functions as the company's first Windows-powered effort in that arena and Apple has changed its tablet marketing strategy with the iPad, making it thinner and sleeker. Nokia's high-powered Lumia with its updated cameras is also nothing to dismiss. Here is a brief spec and feature comparison of both of these tablets.
Display
The iPad Air features a gorgeous 9.7-inch retina display with 2048 x 1536 resolution at 264 ppi, making it one of the finest screens on the market at this time. The Nokia Lumia 2520 packs a 10.1-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution at 218ppi. The bigger display and lower resolution on the Lumia certainly gives Apple a significant advantage in this department. However, Nokia's device has the ability to provide great picture in all lighting conditions with its very low reflectance due to its 650 nits of brightness. The Lumia might be better for outside use.
Design
The Lumia 2520 sports the same plastic frame that can be found on the company's line of Windows smartphones. It's a trendy look that allows Nokia to offer the device in various colors, but lacks the class of the iPad Air, which is constructed with aluminum and is extremely sleek and easy to hold.
Speed
The Lumia packs a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, making it extremely quick and efficient. Apple chose to use its A7 chip with 64-bit architecture, placing the iPad Air slightly ahead of the pack in terms of processors. The A7 is dual-core based. Both tablets should be able to perform most tasks at a more than satisfactory pace, but Apple has the clear advantage here.
Camera
The iPad Air features a 5-megapixel rear camera that can capture video in 1080p. The device's front 1.2-megapixel shooter can capture video in 720p. The Nokia Lumia features a 6.7-megapixel back camera that can also capture video in 1080p. The device's front shooter has a 2-megapixel sensor than can match up to Apple's device by also taking 720p video. The tablets are almost evenly matched here.
Software
Both of these devices run the latest versions of two different operating systems with Windows 8.1 on the Lumia 2520 and iOS 7 on the iPad Air. This area comes down to a matter of preference.
Conclusion
Both of these tablets provide a great experience in their respective areas. Apple has been running this market since releasing the original iPad in 2010 so their device might be a bit more trustworthy. They are priced at around the same amount, so the battle between the two comes down to preference.
