iPad Overheating Claims Denied by Apple

3rd Generation Tablet Not Suffering From Excessive Heat Issues, Company Claims

Apple has denied claims that its new iPad 3 is suffering from overheating concerns, with a representative telling ComputerWorld.com that consumers should take their product to an Apple store or contact customer service over the issues.

The new tablet, which just hit the market Friday of last week, has already sold millions of copies worldwide, but has also sparked a debate on the company's online discussion board over heating concerns, with consumers suggesting that the iPad 3 is noticeably hotter than the iPad 2.

"Just got my new iPad. I'm loving the screen and speed but there's something weird about it. It gets rather warm/hot after 30minutes of usage. It has never happened on my iPad 2," a user named "faatty" wrote on Apple's discussion board.

"My new iPad (Verizon 64GB) definitely got significantly warm, almost too warm to hold warm, when running on LTE. Not even doing a lot of downloads (just browsing Twitter) but having the LTE radio on seemed to cause it to get noticeably hot," user "Rawwave" wrote.

Users are complaining that the product is difficult to hold, as many who have expressed issues over heating say that the warmth is stemming from on the bottom left of the tablet.

"My new iPad is overheating, bottom left like everyone else. The screen is great, but the heat is near unbearable at times and makes my hands sweaty while holding it," a user named "Limitin" wrote.

"I'm a bit surprised, it's not very comfortable and mine is actually pretty hot (64gb with 4g). Literally hot product… awesome screen ect but I wish it's just (a) temporary thing," another iPad 3 owner, "Mobio," wrote.

The new iPad 3 went on the market in the U.S., France, U.K., Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Singapore, Australia, and Switzerland last Friday.

The third generation iPad has an added retina display, offering users four times more pixels than the iPad 2, making the display of pictures, colors, and text on the device "lifelike and perfectly detailed," according to Apple's website.

Apple describes the new iPad as a "breakthrough."

"It's brilliant. In every sense of the word," the company says on its website.
