iPhone 4S and iOS 5 Battery Problems? Scientists Create Super-Battery That Lasts 10x Longer
Scientists at McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science claim to have created a battery that can hold up to 10 times more power, and charge up to 10 times faster, than current batteries out in the market.
According to The Daily Mail the state-of-the-art battery uses a mix of sheets of carbon and silicon to supercharge today's lithium-ion batteries.
The revolutionary batteries could be on the market within three years, and have been touted to extend the battery life of smartphones such as the iPhone 4S to days rather than hours.
Lead author of the study, which has been published in Advanced Energy Materials, Harold Kung has commented: “We have found a way to extend a new lithium-ion battery's charge life by 10 times. Even after a year of operation, the battery is still five times more effective than li-ion batteries on the market today.”
He adds: “We almost have the best of both worlds.”
