iPhone 5 Release Date: Watch Siri Used on the iPhone 4
Tech site 9to5Mac and developer Steven Troughton-Smith have managed to import Siri, Apple’s new voice navigation system featured on the iPhone 4S onto an iPhone 4.
The Christian Post had originally reported that this would be a possibility for iPhone 4 users, and 9to5Mac shows that it is indeed possible.
According to 9to5Mac, Troughton-Smith was able to get the beginning steps of a full port rolling after installing the iPhone 4S Siri and Springboard files onto an iPhone 4.
As seen in the video on the site, the developer manages to get Siri’s interface to load up with all the new features on the iPhone 4.
Siri works efficiently on the last generation smartphone by recognizing spoken commands in both the standard Siri view and the keyboard dictation view.
Unfortunately, Apple is not authenticating commands to its servers from iPhone 4 hardware.
However Siri does have the ability to speak back to the user on the iPhone 4.
Another issue the developer ran into while porting the system was not being able to install a special GPU driver in the 4 which is included in the 4S.
This driver could not be found in the iPhone 4S’s binary cache, where the Siri files are located.
9to5Mac came to the conclusion that there is no concrete technical reason why Apple will not allow Siri to run on the iPhone 4.
Its hardware is fully capable of supporting the Siri artificial intelligence system, as the A4 processor is said to be powerful enough.
Apple may be keeping this feature exclusive to the iPhone 4S due to the special microphone support, or because the A5 may allow it to run quicker.
