iPhone 5 Release Date: Apple Adds New iPhone 4 to its Inventory

Apple plans to unveil a new iPhone at its October 4 media event set to take place in Cupertino, California, the company’s home turf.

Although Apple is rumored to provide guests with a first look at a new smartphone, it is unclear whether it will be a drastically changed iPhone 5, or an updated version of the iPhone 4.

The company recently added two new iPhone SKUs into its inventory system that are marked as tweaked iPhone 4s, according to tech site, 9to5Mac.

The new device’s codename is N90A which varies from the original iPhone 4 SKU as that one appears as N90.

9to5Mac stated that this new SKU could possibly represent a previously rumored 8GB model. Both new SKUS could possibly be for an updated black and white iPhone 4.

The site also added that Apple probably would not label its next generation iPhone under the codename N90. Instead, a drastically changed phone would require a drastically different SKU since it would include major internal hardware upgrades constituting a change in name.

The iPhone 5’s SKU could possibly be N94, another codename which seems to have popped up recently in Apple’s inventory system.

Along with the addition of two new iPhone 4’s, Apple also added three other SKUs that are probably codenames for new models of the iPod Touch.

The codename N81A also appeared in the company’s inventory system, a SKU which bears a striking resemblance to the iPod Touch's N81 name.

According to 9to5Mac, the A likely represents a string of three new white models including 8GB, 32GB and 64GB versions.

All of these new products recently added to Apple’s inventory should debut at the company’s media event on October 4.
