iPhone 5 Release Date: Apple to Release Fix for iOS 5 Battery Problem Within Weeks

Apple has vowed to release a fix for the bug in its iOS 5 causing battery problems in its devices. The company admitted to problems with the battery life on its iOS 5 devices yesterday after weeks of complaints from customers.

iPhone 4S users complained that their batteries are being drained up to 15 percent every hour, even when not in use.

The problem appears to be with a bug in the new iOS 5 software rather than the battery itself.

There have been complaints from iPad users too; from those who’ve upgraded to the new iOS 5.

“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” said a statement from Apple. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

According to the specs page on Apple's website, the iPhone 4S battery is supposed to be able to handle up to 200 hours of standby time, up to 8 hours of talk time on a 3G, or 14 hours on a 2G, and up to 6 hours of Internet use on a 3G or 9 hours on Wi-Fi.

A discussion thread about the iPhone 4S battery life on Apple's website, however, reveals that customers are not getting what was advertised.
