iPhone 5 Release Date: Are You Eligible for an iPhone 5 Upgrade?
The iPhone 5 is expected to be unveiled at Apple's "Let's Talk iPhone" conference on October 4, and carriers AT&T and Verizon Wireless are helping customers find out whether they are eligible for an upgrade from their current handsets.
AT&T customers can find out if they are eligible for upgrade by simply typing *639# into the dial pad of their phone and hitting the call button. Afterwards, an SMS will be sent detailing their results.
The provider has confirmed with The Christian Post that this method should work on any AT&T powered phone.
Verizon customers can log onto their account on the Verizon Wireless website. After clicking the My Verizon tab, customers will see a list of phones and their eligibility to upgrade.
CP has confirmed that the iPhone 5 is currently not on this list. However customers can check back to see when the iPhone 5 is on the list.
Rumors have indicated that Sprint may be the next carrier to power the iPhone 5. Thus far the network has not confirmed the affiliation.
Commentators have noted, however, that Sprint has recently updated its smartphone termination fee to $350 and decreased its return window policy from 30 days to 14 days.
Many speculate that these changes have been made in preparation for the iPhone 5.
Rumors that T-Mobile would also be carrying the iPhone have also been circulating. However, Chief Marketing Officer Cole Brodman has recently confirmed that these rumors are false.
After reportedly stating at a T-Mobile internal Town Hall meeting on September 15 that, "We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year,” Brodman reiterated on the T-Mobile blog that the network would "love to have the iPhone".
"The ball is in Apple's court," he said.
