iPhone 5 Release Date: Claro Offers Cheapest iPhone 4S at $99
Claro Puerto Rico is offering the iPhone 4S for one of the cheapest rates in the North America at $99 for the 16 GB versions, according to 9to5Mac.
Claro Puerto Rico is currently the largest mobile phone network in the Americas.
It is part of a larger Mexican telecom group called America Movil, one of the biggest mobile phone network operators in the world servicing over 200 million customers.
Claro is selling the 16 GB versions for just $99 with a standard two-year agreement.
This could be the lowest subsidized price for the smartphone in the United States as well.
Other carriers, such as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, offer the 16 GB iPhone 4S with a two-year agreement for $199 and the 32 GB versions for $299.
Claro is also undercutting those carriers by offering the 8GB iPhone 4 with a two-year agreement for just $49.99. That is $50 less than Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
The company’s unlocked iPhone 4S models retail at $669.99 for 16 GB, $769.99 for 32 GB and $869.99 for the 64 GB version. It is also offering the unlocked 8 GB iPhone 4 for $569.99. C Spire also made the iPhone 4S available to its customers today.
News leaked last month that the smaller carrier would be one of the first besides the major ones, such as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, to begin selling the new iPhone 4S.
Most major carriers released the iPhone 4S Oct. 12 and it quickly became the fastest selling iPhone model of all time. Apple reported it sold 4 million pre-orders for the device in just four days.
The iPhone 5 will probably see an even bigger release, because Apple is continuing to expand the availability for its device to be carried to various networks.
