iPhone 5 Release Date: iPhone 4S to be Launched at Apple Event Tomorrow?
Expectations for Apple’s new iPhone event Tuesday have reached an all-time high as customers anticipate the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S.
Apple confirmed it will be hosting a media event on Tuesday, October 4, at its campus in Cupertino, California.
Janney Capital Markets analyst Bill Choi said Monday that he expects Apple to see around 107 million iPhones this year, reported the Los Angeles Times.
The new chief executive who replaced Steve Jobs, Tim Cook, will be leading the even at the flagship store. Cook will unveil the new mobile device, which has many rumors swirling around it.
It is widely believed that Apple will change the size of the screen on the device to compete with Android smartphones.
However, Andy Hargreaves, a leading Wall Street analyst, said the new phone will not have a differently sized screen.
“iPhone 5 screen size likely to the same as iPhone,” wrote Hargreaves in a note to clients.
Rumored to resemble the thin tapered exterior shape of the iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 5 would allow a bigger screen, despite Hargreaves’ assessment.
The larger screen is only one of the rumored new features. The camera on the phone is expected to include 8 megapixels, the phone may offer wireless charging, and may appear redesigned.
Some analysts suggest that the iPhone 5 may not feature 4G capabilities or 4G LTE capability, and other rumors include a low cost iPhone 4S, which has been compared to the current iPhone 4.
There is also word that wireless networks T-Mobile and Sprint will carry the iPhone 5. Neither network was confirmed or denied this.
