iPhone 5 Release Date: iPhone 5 Not 4S Was Steve Jobs' Final Project Before Death

Even though the iPhone 4S has only just been released Friday, news has already emerged stating that Apple is already well developed in its plans for the iPhone 5. Sources are saying that it is the iPhone 5, not the iPhone 4S, that co-founder and former-CEO Steve Jobs worked on and made his final contribution towards before his death last week.

Already, the iPhone 5 is being touted to be a “cult classic” and that it is likely that the Apple iPhone 5 release date will be in mid-2012.

Rumors suggest that the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen than its predecessors and will have a slimmer profile.

Other rumors indicate that it will have LTE (Long Term Evolution), or 4G.

CNET's Brooke Crothers has reported that a source he spoke with this week claims "to have knowledge of the redesign," saying "the iPhone 5 is a 'complete redesign. This is a very large project that Steve dedicated all of his time to. He was not that involved in the 4S because his time was limited’."

One industry analyst has said that even though the iPhone 4S has been breaking all records in terms of pre-orders and launch day sales, what has been witnessed will be nothing compared to what Steve Jobs’ final legacy, the iPhone 5, will do.

The iPhone 4S has disappointed many Apple followers due to it being exactly the same externally as the older iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 will, however, have a radical redesign.

Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, stated in a research note this week that the iPhone 5 “was the last project that Steve Jobs was intimately involved with from concept to final design. For that reason ... this product will establish the high-water mark for iPhone volumes.”

Jobs died last week aged 56 after a long battle with cancer. He goes down in history as one of the all-time great innovators for creating landmark devices such as the iPhone, the iPad tablet, the iPod and the Mac computer.
