iPhone 5 Release Date: Lucky Customers in Germany First to Receive iPhone 4S
Some customers in Germany who pre-ordered the highly coveted iPhone 4S, the latest model of the Apple iPhone, got lucky Tuesday and received the new gadget a full three days earlier than its official release date, Wired.com reported.
On the German website Macerkopf.de, some of those who received the iPhone 4S have posted pictures of the packaging of the device and some of its features, with many agreeing that the packaging is remarkably similar to that of its predecessor, the iPhone 4.
According to the website, German Telecom delivered the devices and had begun accepting pre-orders in early September, before the model was even announced.
Apple announced Monday that pre-orders for the iPhone 4S reached over a million in one day, breaking the company's previous record of sales for the iPhone 4. According the the New York Post, the sales reached over a 67 percent increase from those of the iPhone 4 last year.
Some of the improved features of the iPhone 4S include an internet speed twice as fast as that of the previous iPhone, a new camera, which consists of not only eight megapixels as opposed to five, but also an illuminated sensor that supposedly receives 73 percent more light, new HD video and longer battery life.
In addition, the iPhone 4S includes a new feature called Siri, a voice recognition assistant that is designed to understand natural language, allowing a user to ask it questions in a conversational manner and have it understand and respond back in an equally complex manner. Siri can also place phone calls, send and receive text messages or email, and scheduling events and meetings, according to Apple's website.
Although the feature is currently only available in English, German and French, Apple will continue expanding the list of languages as service progresses.
The iPhone 4S will be available to the general public and those who pre-ordered it on Oct. 14.
