iPhone 5 Release Date Set for September

Apple has made plans to launch the next-generation iPhone in September, according to new rumors.

A recent article published by DigiTimes claims to have gotten word from Pegatron, an alternate manufacture to Foxconn that Apple frequently uses for producing the company's devices, that it has received a request from Apple to have a certain amount of new iPhones ready for a September release.

"The iPhone claim appears to be a reasonable one given current thinking that Apple will return to a roughly one-year interval between iPhone updates, with a September launch coming just under a year after the early October introduction on the iPhone 4S last year." said MacRumors.

DigiTimes also stated that Pegatron has received an order to produce a 7-inch iPad to be released during the fourth quarter of this year.

However, MacRumors is not convinced by this part of the report since it does not match up to Apple's normal strategies.

"But the iPad claim is a more troublesome one, as Apple has so far stuck to a yearly schedule for iPad hardware updates centered around the March-April timeframe," said MacRumors. "A late 2012 release of a new "10-inch iPad" presumably arriving as a next-generation version of the current device would mark a significantly shorter lifecycle for the current model than would be expected."

The site seems to be forgetting that a 7-inch model would not function as a next-generation model, but a smaller and cheaper variant of it made to compete with the low-end sector of the tablet market that is currently dominated by the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Apple recently lowered prices on the original iPad and the iPad 2. Many retailers have also began to offer the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 at a much cheaper price. This could mean that new products are coming soon.
